Best Units in Anime Ascendants
Carry kits, obtainment paths, and which nuke to evolve first.
This page is the carry manual for live Anime Ascendants. The units tier list tells you the row; this guide tells you why the row exists, how the attack works, and how you actually get the body into your inventory. Lobbies are 16-player online tower defense on desktop and mobile—your teammates can cover a leak, they cannot evolve your unit for you.
Pair this with how to evolve before you dump materials, and lock the finished squad in the team builder.
Sukuno — evolved line nuke
Sukuno is the late-game argument. The evolved form is a line-area nuke that keeps scaling through raid bosses and deep infinite. It is a scalpel that happens to delete parades: plant it on the longest straight, finish the upgrade tree, and stop feeding cash into starter leftovers.
How to get it. Farm the Jujutsu-themed legend stage (four acts) for the base, then run the Sukuno and Yuto flashback content for the evolution. This is a grind path, not a single summon. If you cannot clear the legend acts yet, keep a temporary carry (Free Ren, Shonks, Hosoko) and come back. Do not park Ascendant on a unit you have not evolved.
Yuto — raid burst
Yuto exists to make boss health bars vanish. Targeting is clean, burst is high, and placement cost returns more damage than most summons in the same slot. In raids you want Yuto online before the named enemy, not as a panic plant at 20% hull.
How to get it. Raid content is the lane. Treat raid currency and raid shops as Yuto’s real banner. If you only play story, you will wait longer than players who run the raid rotation with a farm unit in slot one.
Itochi — damage plus support, line on the last evo
Itochi is the hybrid that stays in first-row conversations. Base kits already deal and support (burn is the headline). The last evolution upgrade adding line area coverage is the breakpoint: before that upgrade it is a flexible high-A; after that upgrade it is an S+ that can stand in mixed teams without feeling like a wasted damage slot.
How to get it. The Itochi event is the intended window. When that event is live, finish its shop before you dump gems on a standard banner. Off-window, do not pretend a random summon is a substitute.
Free Ren — stable Mage Pass damage
Free Ren is the anti-tilt carry. Damage is consistent across long stages, the kit does not ask for a perfect map, and obtainment is the Mage Pass rather than a lottery. If your account is still unlocking legend acts, Free Ren is the adult in the room while Sukuno materials trickle in.
How to get it. Buy or grind the Mage Pass track. That is the whole sentence. It is why Free Ren sits in S instead of in “maybe someday.”
Shonks — full-board coverage you can actually pull
Shonks is the accessible full-area unit. Trash waves, awkward corners, and story maps all treat full-board coverage as a kindness. It will not out-burst Yuto on a raid boss, and it does not need to. Many leaks are coverage problems pretending to be damage problems.
How to get it. Standard summons. That accessibility is the point—build around Shonks until a legend or event carry lands, then keep it as the splash insurance policy.
Goju and Hosoko — uptime and summonable spike
Goju plays as high-uptime damage that can lean support. If your first slot is already a nuke, Goju is the partner that keeps attacking while cooldowns happen. Give it Supernova or a boss trait, not your only Ascendant.
Hosoko is a summonable spike with flexible deployment. You do not need a raid shop to own it, which makes it a realistic second carry on accounts that are not living in Berserk acts.
How to get both. Summon banners. Evolve when the materials are cheaper than another ten-pull.
Event and raid carries (shifting)
These names jump the queue while their content is in the client. They are not a promise that the permanent S+ row died.
- Guts and Griffith come from the Berserk banner path. Guts also wants the Radi shop item at 250 Seals of Sacrifice. Griffith’s item sits on Berserk Raid act five. If you skip the shop, you own a costume, not a kit.
- Skeleton Knight drops from Berserk Raid acts four and five. That is a raid-act farm, not a lobby flex.
- Madoka (event secret) and Homura Time Traveler dominate while Cycles of Fate is live. Play the event, evolve them, then re-check ranks when the shop closes.
- Itadori (Final Vessel), Maka (Revenge), and Megumin & Mahoraga are the Update 2 rush list when those farms are open.
- Assassin is the flexible extra: damage, starter value, and support potential if you need a fourth job.
Charmi (Love) is not a solo carry. It belongs next to Bolma on the farm and support page, where the money amp actually shows up in your upgrade timing.
What “best” means in a 16-player lobby
Best is the unit that matches the hole in your board and the content on the queue button. A lobby with three Sukuno clones and no farmer will still starve. A lobby with Bolma, Orwin, and a fully evolved Yuto will not. Use the team builder to lock one farmer, one buffer, and one or two of the carries above. Then evolve the carry you can actually farm this week—not the portrait you saw in a thumbnail.
Obtainment is the real bottleneck. Sukuno wants legend clears, Yuto wants raid currency, Itochi wants its event window, Free Ren wants the Mage Pass, and the Berserk trio wants raid acts plus shop items. Bookmark those farms before you reroll traits onto a unit you cannot evolve.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for codes, traits, summons, and story progress.
What is the best unit overall?
Sukuno if you can evolve it, Yuto for raid burst, Itochi if you need damage plus support. “Best” still requires a farmer and a buffer in the same lobby.
How do I get Sukuno?
Clear the Jujutsu legend acts for the base, then run the Sukuno and Yuto flashback content for the evolution. It is a farm, not a single pull.
Is Free Ren worth the Mage Pass?
Yes if you want a stable S-row carry without waiting on a secret. It will not replace evolved Sukuno, and it does not need to.
Should I chase Guts before I own Bolma?
No. Event carries still need cash. Secure farm and a story-capable damage dealer, then spend the raid week on Guts, Griffith, or Skeleton Knight.
